The 2008 Luna Negra Malbec is matured in 50% new French and 50% American oak. There is an attractive herbaceous nose with a touch of vanilla pod, then hints of lavender and violets with very fine definition. Fine tannins on the entry, very good acidity, great focus and poise with bilberry and briary towards the finish with a slight gravelly notes. Lovely.

"Dark and deeply coloured with a vibrant purple edge.  A strongly perfumed wine, berry conserve, black plums, violets, vanilla and spice.  A dense palate packed with ripe berryfruit flavours following on from where the aromas left off.  Well integrated American oak lend a spicy vanillin aspect.  The wine is held together with ample powdery fine tannins.  This is a classic example of Luna Negra: rich, ripe and decadent."

The 2006 vintage (***** five stars) is almost opaque. powerful, sweet fruited and soft, it has masses of berry and spice flavour, but needs time to unfold; open 2008 onwards.

“An exuberant nose exhibiting classic super-ripe Malbec aromas of blackberry, violets, and dark chocolate, all wrapped up in scented American oak.

Masses of ripe black Doris plums and blackberry fruit conserve flood the palate accompanied by tar and cedary vanillin notes. Powerful fruit with plentiful ripe and velvety tannins make this a delicious and decadent red.”

2008 Wine Guide

“The 2004 was matured in American Oak casks (half new), it has inky, impenetrable colour.

Fresh, with dense, slightly raisiny flavours of plums, cassis and spice, it’s still a baby, but shows striking richness. Best drinking 2007+.”

Densely coloured, it's a supercharged wine, overflowing with plum spice and liquorice flavours, with chewy tanins beneath.

“A rich densely coloured wine with saturated purple crimson hue.

Wild blackberry nose with hints of violets, black cherry, and spicy oak. Fragrantly scented with integrated aromas of fruit and oak in harmony.

Concentrated palate with juicy berry fruit giving way to cassis and sweet oak. A harmonious wine with fine rounded tannins, lingering on the finish.”
